DOME 4.0: 9 Showcases Dissemination Workshop

On October 16th, the much-anticipated 9 Showcases Dissemination Workshop took place online, gathered participants from diverse industries, research institutions, and stakeholders across Europe. Moderated by Adrien Scheuer from Siemens Software, the workshop provided an in-depth look at the DOME 4.0 project and its collaborative efforts, setting the stage for future breakthroughs in digital and sustainable manufacturing.

SCs - Workshop 2

A Collaborative Opening and Introduction of the CODEX Cluster

The workshop began with a warm welcome from Adrien Scheuer, who set the tone for a day full of insightful presentations and live demonstrations. Adrien introduced Nikos Chondrogiannis, the Dissemination and Communication Expert for the DOME 4.0 project, who then took the stage to highlight the formation of the CODEX Cluster. This innovative cluster unites the efforts of DOME 4.0 with several other key European projects, facilitating collaboration, knowledge exchange, and technological advancements.

Nikos Chondrogiannis explained how CODEX enables industries to work together more effectively by sharing data, tools, and resources, ultimately promoting efficiency and sustainability across sectors. The projects included in the CODEX Cluster are:

  • Open Model: Focuses on advancing materials modeling, enabling industries to simulate processes and predict material behavior, presented by Noel Vizcaino from STFCRALSC.
  • MUSICODE: Simplifies complex materials modeling for the electronics industry, allowing non-experts to engage in the modeling process, accelerating innovation in areas like organic electronics.
  • CHARISMA: Presented by Nicola Marzari from EPFL, this project enhances real-time material analysis through Raman spectroscopy, benefiting industries such as chemical processing and food safety.
  • OntoTrans: Assists manufacturers in understanding material behavior during production, using a data-driven approach to reduce costs and improve production efficiency, introduced by Silvia Chiacchiera.
  • NanoCommons: Focuses on testing materials at the nanoscale, which is particularly relevant for the aerospace and automotive industries, helping to ensure safety and performance.
  • Much Maker: Utilizes machine learning to aid in the development of sustainable materials, focusing on low-carbon solutions that reduce waste and emissions in industries like construction and energy.

Nikos emphasized that CODEX breaks down the traditional silos between industries, paving the way for greater innovation in material science and sustainable manufacturing.

DOME 4.0 Platform Overview by Adham Hashibon

After the CODEX Cluster presentation, Adham Hashibon from UCL presented an overview of the DOME 4.0 platform, a Digital Open Marketplace Ecosystem. The platform serves as a central hub connecting data consumers and providers, supporting interoperability, and integrating multiple platforms to enable seamless data sharing.
