DOME4.0 on KGA - Knowledge Graph Alliance ASBL in Brussels: A Step Forward for Semantic Knowledge Graphs and Collaboration in Data Handling
On the 10th of November 2023, a new association called KGA - Knowledge Graph Alliance ASBL was launched in Brussels, and DOME 4.0 is proud that colleagues from the project participated in this exciting event.
KGA is an international no-profit association for semantic and FAIR knowledge graphs, created to continue and broaden the activities of the OntoCommons project, a Horizon 2020 CSA on Ontology-driven data documentation for Industry Commons. In fact, the OntoCommons project, which naturally was strongly connected to DOME 4.0 since its start and over its whole life, has just concluded its intense three-years span at the end of October 2023, and the creation of KGA is one of its outcomes.
KGA involves industries and research partners from all over the world, with Asia, Europe, USA, and UK already represented by various founding organizations, and more organizations joining at the time of writing. From the very start, KGA has identified sibling associations in the area of innovation for materials and manufacturing, including for example the Industrial Ontology Foundry (IoF) and the European Materials and Modelling Council (EMMC), with which cooperation agreements will be set up.
The inauguration event included a keynote by Peter Dröll from the European Commission and many insightful industrial talks, in a rich agenda and great atmosphere. KGA's slogan is “Data to wisdom” and it will leverage knowledge graphs and related technologies to better exploit data, in the manufacturing context and beyond. As the industrial talks and demos have shown, there is a large overlap in needs across different industrial actors and sectors when it comes to data and knowledge handling, and wide scale co-creation will be beneficial for the whole community. KGA activities, among others, will also address education and training aspects, with a “KGA-Academy” and a pool of experts.
DOME 4.0 is looking forward to the activities of this new association and will definitely follow its developments. Congratulations to KGA!
